Archer Avenue, Queens, New York City.
On 01 December 2022, a food distribution was held on the corner of Archer Avenue in Jamaica, New York City under a hunger and food relief program, “Anna Sudha”, organized by Shree Mata Darbar, a Hindu religious organization in Maryland.
Food was offered to the needy and deserving people free of charge, around the corner of a Subway Station at Archer Avenue. The event began around 4:00 pm, under a tall eye-captioning poster of Devi Annapurna and Lord Shiva picturizing Lord Shiva given food as alms.
The occasion was started by Komal and Naresh who have arrived from West Punjab Pakistan with a 5-year-old daughter just a year ago. The family of 3 is struggling for their betterment in their new homeland yet has the true spirit to play their role to extend help and support to the deserving in America through the religious platform of Anna Sudha.
During the episode, an old lady walking alongside the street highly appreciated them quoting that in the modern-day era where everyone is self-centered, their initiative reflects the positive aspect of Hinduism and will surely pave way for the respect and dignity for the needy. As said by her, “such events will bring a significant increase in local food programs to bring food to people facing hunger”.
The couple’s efforts to serve the hungry, in American mainstream through a Hindu religious organization is highly admired by Shri Rajiv Varma, a key role in advocating for policies that create long-term solutions to Hunger.
