Maryland

For Immediate Release 7509 Windsor Mill Rd, MD 21244 Baltimore, Maryland (Friday, June 9th 2023).

Shree Mata Darbar organized another free food distribution under Anna Sudha to address rising levels of food insecurity in Maryland.

Hunger is a constant reality for anyone living in poverty. Many individuals and families must make the impossible choice between paying their rent or buying food. One in eight people in Maryland, and one in four in Baltimore City, are food insecure. The impact is seen to be more widespread among vulnerable communities including women, Latinx households, elderly and low-income families.

To meet the food needs of individuals like those in Night of Peace Family Shelter Home, a Hindu Volunteer hosted a second free food distribution event under Anna Sudha on Friday, June 9, 2023. The program delivered grocery boxes including pantry staples such as apples, mashed potatoes, waffles, toasts, milk, bottled water with other cleaning and serving household supplies.

On this occasion, Shivaram Sitaram, the President of Shree Mata Darbar quoted that, he will continue to create future opportunities to cater for the needs of the deprived local communities especially during these times when the levels of food insecurity are rising rapidly.

Rajiv Varma, the mastermind of the program, also stressed upon the need of rapid and adequate support for those vulnerable to food insecurity through humanitarian assistance as well as from organizations like Shree Mata Darbar to allow food to flow from surplus areas to those in need.

Ms. Klara Freeman, the Executive Director of the Family Shelter mentioned that, “Night of Peace Family Shelter Home is dedicated to provide every member with reliable access to fresh and nutritious food as well as peaceful shelter.” She was extremely thankful to Shree Mata Darbar for the donated items and stated that, “The donated food supplies would help them meet the needs of the deserving community.”

She further added that,” We are grateful to Anna Sudha, a Hindu Social Service Program for hunger relief and food insecurity for distributing the needed food items to the children, youth, elderly and families in our Shelter home. In these challenging times, we need partners like Shree Mata Darbar to continue providing these valuable resources.”
